Class action settlement: Did you or someone you know receive Disability Pension Benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada at any time between 2003 and 2023?

MANUGE et al v. HIS MAJESTY THE KING

Did you or someone you know receive Disability Pension Benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada at any time between 2003 and 2023?

A class action settlement may affect you. Please read this notice carefully.

On 17 January 2024 the Federal Court approved a settlement in a certified class action involving the alleged underpayment of certain disability pension benefits administered by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) payable to members or former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and their spouses, common-law partners, survivors, other related individuals, and estates.

If you received disability pension benefits at any time between 2003 and 2023, and have a current payment relationship with VAC, you will automatically receive your settlement payment through your current payment method no later than December 2024. No action is required.

Surviving spouses and dependent children of deceased RCMP members could also be class members if they received disability pension benefits in their own right, at any time between 2003 and 2023. If they have a current payment relationship with VAC, they will also receive their settlement payment through their current payment method no later than December 2024. No action is required.

If you received disability pension benefits at any time between 2003 and 2023, and you are no longer receiving benefits from VAC, you will need to submit a claim to the Class Action Administrator, KPMG.

The executor, estate trustee, administrator, family member, or relative of a deceased RCMP Class Member who collected VAC-disability pension benefits during the time period, must submit a claim to the Class Action Administrator, KPMG.

In addition to being entitled to a deceased RCMP member's settlement amount, a family member may also qualify for a settlement payment for deceased dependents of former RCMP members, such as a spouse or dependent child who received a disability pension in their own right. Please note that you will need to fill out a separate claim form for each class member.

The deadline to submit a claim to KPMG is 19 March 2025.
