Increased flow of emails from MyCFP portal

The frequency of emails from the Canadian Firearms Program to clients has increased as a result of the introduction of the MyCFP portal.

If you are uncertain about the validity of emails, or do not wish to access your account from the email, you can sign in to your account using the online portal.

Please note: if your MyCFP account is deleted, it will not affect your Individual Web Services account, nor will it affect any existing licences or registrations you have with the Canadian Firearms Program.

Online

The online service is open to eligible Canadian residents.

To be eligible to apply online you must:

  • be a first-time applicant
    • a first-time applicant is someone who has never had a valid firearms licence including:
      • minor's licence
      • possession and acquisition licence (PAL)
      • possession only licence (POL)
      • firearms acquisition certificate (FAC)
  • be at least 12 years of age

If you currently live in the province of Quebec and are applying for a Possession and Acquisition Licence to be able to acquire restricted and/or prohibited firearms, you must:

  • include a completed SQ-3007, In-person filing form available from the Sûreté du Québec website.
    • The English form is available under Formulaires.

If you do not currently live in Canada or have not lived in Canada for at least 5 years you may also be required to provide a letter of good conduct.

If you are applying as an adult (aged 18 and over) you must:

  • have valid email addresses for your:
    • 2 references
    • photo guarantor
    • current conjugal partner (if applicable)
    • former conjugal partner (if applicable)

If you are applying as a minor (age 12-17) you must:

  • have a valid email address for your:
    • parent or guardian

If you will be seeking a firearms licence under the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada Adaptations Regulations (Firearms) you must:

  • have a valid email address for your:
    • elder, leader, or adult (if applicable)

If you will be seeking a photo waiver you must:

  • have a valid email address for your:
    • religious official who will attest you are a member of a religion prohibits the taking of photographs of its members.
