Firearms forms and reports

Apply online for a Possession and Acquisition Licence for the first time. Use this form if:

• you do not already have a licence
• your licence has expired
• you want to upgrade or downgrade your current firearms licence
• you want a licence for a different class of firearm

Individuals living in Quebec and applying to obtain restricted or prohibited firearms, must include the form SQ-3007, In-person filing.

Apply online or use this form to renew your Possession and Acquisition Licence if it is still valid.

Apply online if you are applying for a Minor's Licence for the first time or contact the Chief Firearms Officer in your province or territory to get this form.

For use by members of an Indigenous community (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) who engage in traditional hunting practices. Apply online if a first-time applicant and seeking a firearms licence under the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada Adaptations Regulations (Firearms). You must also submit form RCMP 5592 (Possession and Acquisition Licence) or form RCMP 5485 (Minor’s Licence).

For Quebec residents only. Use this form if you live in Quebec and you are applying to get restricted or prohibited firearms. Download it from the Sûreté du Québec website. The English form is available under Formulaires.

For use by certified instructors only. Firearms instructors in British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario may use the online portal. Instructors in all other jurisdictions must use this form.

For use by individuals who may qualify for an exemption from the standard Canadian Firearms Safety Course requirements for non-restricted firearms. Contact the Chief Firearms Officer in your province or territory to get this form.

Use this form to authorize an executor or liquidator to manage and transfer firearms belonging to a deceased person. You must submit this form to the Canadian Firearms Program before any transactions, including transfer of ownership or deactivating a firearm, can be processed. You must provide one of the following:

• a death certificate
• letters of probate
• an official letter from a police department or coroner that confirms the registered owner of the firearms is deceased

Print this form on 8.5" x 14" paper (legal size) and complete it before arriving at the border. Do not sign the form until you are in the presence of a Canada Border Services Agency officer.

To transport any restricted firearms, you must have a valid Authorization to Transport. You can apply online, contact the Chief Firearms Officer of jurisdiction in the province or territory you are visiting, or submit an application by mail using form RCMP 5490.
