Canadian Firearms Safety Course instructors

Become an instructor of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) or Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC)

A number of factors are considered when designating Canadian (Restricted) Firearms Safety Course instructors, including individual qualifications and the need for instructors in each jurisdiction.

To be eligible to apply to online, you must:

  • have a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for a minimum of 3 consecutive years, with the appropriate privileges for the course(s) you are applying to teach
  • have 2 references who have known you for 3 years or more and who can speak to your ability to be a safety instructor
  • obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Check from your local police service
  • have a CV or resume
  • have 2 pieces of government issued identification
  • have contact information for your Canadian Firearms Safety Course or Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course service delivery agent sponsor (if applicable)
  • have contact information for the training institution or organization with which you are affiliated (if applicable)
  • confirm you are eligible to apply online, in the MyCFP portal

Important

  • If your application is approved, you will be required to successfully complete training provided by a master instructor, at your own cost
  • To maintain your designation, you must deliver a minimum of 2 courses within the first year of your designation and a minimum of 1 course every year after that
  • As an instructor, you will be required to submit student information and safety course results through the online MyCFP Portal

Please note: in some provinces, Canadian Firearms Safety Course or Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course training is delivered by third-party service delivery agents on behalf of Chief Firearms Officers. In those provinces, you will be required to apply through the service delivery agent.
