Requirements for the transfer of cartridge magazines for individuals and businesses
Note
Bill C-21, An Act to amend certain Acts and to make certain consequential amendments (firearms) received Royal Assent on December 15, 2023. Information about Bill C-21 can be found on the Public Safety Canada website and the Parliament of Canada website.
The new licence requirement for the transfer of cartridge magazines applies only to transfers to individuals. It does not apply to transfers to businesses.
A business or individual may only transfer a cartridge magazine to an individual that holds a valid firearms licence.
It is the business or individual’s responsibility to determine the most effective way to validate that the individual holds a valid firearms licence.
For the transfer of a cartridge magazine to a business, there is no requirement to verify that the business has a valid licence before transferring the cartridge magazine.
Businesses are not required to maintain records relating to the transfer of cartridge magazines, and there is no requirement for businesses to provide any information to the Canadian Firearms Program about these transactions.
