RCMP approved combination locks operation aide-mémoire

The purpose of this aide-mémoire is to assist authorized individuals in operating RCMP-approved combination locks.

Note: The combination used in this aide-mémoire is for demonstration purposes only

S&G 8500 Series Safe Dials

S&G 8500 Series Safe Dials

Note: Prior to step 1, it is recommended to spin the dial 4-5 times to clear the mechanism

If the combination is 87-24-59, you would:

  1. Spin the dial to the left (counter clockwise) passing 87 three times and stop on 87 on the 4th turn.
  2. Spin the dial to the right (clockwise) passing 24 two times and stop on 24 on the 3rd turn.
  3. Spin the dial to the left (counter clockwise) passing 56 one time and stop on 56 on the 2nd turn.
  4. Spin the dial to the right (clockwise) stop on 0 (do not pass it). Push in on the dial and let it spring back out. Spin the dial right (clockwise) until the dial locks (usually around 85).
  5. Pull on the drawer/handle to open the drawer/door.

  2. Spin the dial to the right (clockwise) passing 24 two times then stop on 24 on the 3rd turn.
  3. Spin the dial to the left (counter clockwise) passing 59 one time then stop on 59 on the 2nd turn.
  4. Spin the dial to the right (clockwise) stop on 0 (do not pass it). Hold the dial at 0 with one hand and turn the centre lever on the dial to the right with the other hand. Spin the dial right (clockwise) until the dial locks (usually around 85).
  5. Pull on the drawer/handle to open the drawer/door.

  4. Spin the dial to the right (clockwise) until the dial stops.
  5. Pull on the drawer/handle to open the drawer/door.

  5. Pull down on the body of the lock to release the shackle.
