Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to fatal structure fire

On January 8, 2025, at 4:50 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a structure fire at a residence off of Road 30 W, in the RM of Portage la Prairie, located north of High Bluff.
The residence was confirmed as belonging to Doug Palson, Chief of Police for the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.
Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the Portage la Prairie Fire Department, quickly responded to the scene. Once the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered human remains in the home. The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and RCMP Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
