Update # 1 - Powerview RCMP searching for suspect after firearms complaint in Sagkeeng First Nation
On March 28, 2026, at 11:45 a.m., Powerview RCMP received information that Melvin Courchene was at a residence in Sagkeeng First Nation. Police attended and Courchene turned himself in to police without incident.
He was remanded in custody.
Powerview RCMP continue to investigate.

Powerview RCMP searching for suspect after firearms complaint in Sagkeeng First Nation
On March 17, 2026, at 5:45 am, Powerview RCMP received a firearms complaint in Sagkeeng First Nation. A male was observed threatening another male with a firearm inside a residence in the community. The two males are known to each other.
Officers responded immediately but the suspect had fled the scene on foot. The RCMP Police Dog Services and members of the RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted in locating the male suspect but he could not be found.
Melvin Courchene, a 27-year-old male from Sagkeeng First Nation, is now wanted for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of Prohibited Weapon knowing its possession is unauthorised.
