On April 9, at approximately 7 :10 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report that two male youths had pointed a firearm multiple times at a moving vehicle.
The incidents occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway, near Highway 13, when both the driver and passenger inside a westbound vehicle pointed a green-coloured firearm at a female motorist.
Officers located the vehicle, initiated a high-risk traffic stop and safely took the two males into custody without incident. In the process, upwards of 30 vehicles were stopped on the Trans-Canada Highway while the traffic stop occurred.
Upon examination, the firearms turned out to be toys.
Two 16-year-old males – one from southwest of Winnipeg, the other from southwest of Portage la Prairie – face a charge of common nuisance – endanger life.
Both were released on undertakings.
