Portage RCMP charge male with break and enter, assaulting a police officer

On April 16, at approximately 4 :20 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a break and enter at a residence in the city, on Oak Bay.
Officers learned the suspect had kicked in the door and was causing a disturbance. The resident, who knew the victim, left the home and called RCMP.
The suspect was found laying on top of a mattress in one of the rooms. He resisted arrest and kicked at officers, then jerked his hands away after officers had gained control and were trying to handcuff him. One officer suffered minor injuries.
A 33-year-old Brandon male faces charges of:
- Assaulting a police officer;
- Resisting a peace officer;
- Break and enter with intent; and
- Mischief over $5,000.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in a Portage courtroom on Friday.
