Portage la Prairie RCMP charge male in violent assault

On April 21, at approximately 10 :30 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the city.
Officers responded immediately and heard yelling coming from inside the home. The officers entered, determined a male had repeatedly assaulted his female partner over the past 24 hours, and arrested him. The female was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
A 38-year-old male faces a number of charges, including:
- Forcible confinement;
- Assault;
- Assault causing bodily harm;
- Assault while choking, suffocating or strangling; and
- Being unlawfully in a dwelling house.
The suspect remains in custody.
