Portage la Prairie RCMP arrest male after 19-year-old stabbed multiple times

On April 28, at approximately 11 :30 p.m., RCMP received a report that a female had been stabbed inside a residence on the first 100-block of 1st Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie.
Officers responded immediately and learned a male suspect had chased the female victim into the home, assaulted her and stabbed her multiple times. The two were known to one another.
The victim, a 19-year-old female, was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The suspect was located walking down the street moments after officers arrived the scene. He was arrested, with a knife found inside the backpack he was carrying.
While in custody, the suspect threatened to harm multiple officers.
A 34-year-old male, from Keeseekoowenin, faces 11 charges, including:
- Aggravated assault;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Assault;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Uttering threats x3;
- Break and enter;
- Mischief under $5,000; and
- Failure to comply with a probation order x2.
The suspect remained in custody overnight and was scheduled to make a court appearance on Wednesday.
The investigation continues.
