Deadly canoe accident near Bloodvein First Nation

On May 1, 2026, at 2:11 p.m., Bloodvein RCMP responded to a report of a capsized canoe on Long Body Creek, near Bloodvein First Nation.

With the assistance of a community volunteer, Bloodvein RCMP and First Nation Safety Officers were taken by boat to a riverbank about five kilometres upstream from Rice River Road, where a family of three were located. The volunteer shuttled them to and from the scene.

One of the individuals, a 47-year-old male, went into medical distress once removed from the water. He died shortly after arrival at the local nursing station.

The two other occupants of the canoe, a 44-year-old female and a 12-year-old female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

Bloodvein RCMP continue to investigate.
