Additional charges have been laid against a 14-year-old male previously arrested for uttering threats to harm students at Rivers Collegiate.

On March 13, Blue Hills RCMP were alerted to an online conversation that was occurring between the youth and a 15-year-old from Nova Scotia. Officers were informed that the conversation began in late February and that the male youth from Rivers was actively discussing and planning to harm other students at the school.

Both suspects were arrested on March 16 by Manitoba RCMP and Bridgewater Police Service in Nova Scotia, respectively.

In Manitoba, RCMP seized the phone and electronic devices of the 14-year-old Rivers youth. A subsequent search warrant of two properties associated to the youth resulted in the seizure of additional electronic devices and other items, including two firearms owned by a relative.

The youth was charged that day with uttering threats.

As a result of further investigation, additional charges have been authorized against the youth. Investigators with RCMP Major Crime Services re-arrested the suspect on Wednesday at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The new charges include:

  • Conspiracy to commit murder;
  • Counselling the offence of murder; and
  • Uttering threats x2.

The youth’s next court appearance is slated for June 4.
