Sandy Bay female charged after shoplifting incident in Portage la Prairie

On May 20, at approximately 9 p.m., RCMP responded to a shoplifting incident at a retail store on the 100-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West, in Portage la Prairie.
A community safety officer had arrested a female who had walked out of the store with $18 worth of phone chargers without paying. The female resisted arrest and pushed the officer in an effort to break free, prompting a call to RCMP for assistance. RCMP took the female into custody.
A 27-year-old Sandy Bay First Nation female faces charges of:
- Assaulting a peace officer;
- Resisting a peace officer; and
- Theft under $5,000.
She was released on an undertaking with conditions.
