On June 3, 2026, at 5:50 pm, St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to a fire at the Kleefeld Park on Second Street in Kleefeld.
Officers attended and observed that there had been a fire in a dumpster and in the men’s bathroom. The fires had already been put out by the fire department when Police arrived.
Officers learned that two youth males had been caught shoplifting at a nearby business. The employees were subsequently advised by other patrons that the two males had just started a fire at the park. Another witness had caught the youths setting a dumpster on fire and when confronted, they ran away.
Officers were able to quickly identify and locate the two youths, aged 12 and 13, both from Kleefeld. They were individually warned about the consequences of their actions and the possibility of facing criminal charges.
The RCMP will be working closely with community partners such as the local fire department, by-law officers and other community programming to hold the youths accountable for their actions. At this time, the two youths will not be charged criminally.
