On June 4, at approximately 12:50 a.m., a Swan River RCMP officer standing in the detachment parking lot saw a male leaving a licensed establishment across the street with an alcoholic beverage in his hand.

The officer got out of his vehicle and was greeted by the suspect, who was known to RCMP and was under a court order to not possess alcohol. The suspect told the officer he was holding the beverage for a friend.

At that point, the officer informed the male he was being arrested. The suspect ran and a foot chase ensued. RCMP caught up to the suspect in an alley and a brief struggle ensued, with the individual continuing to resist before finally being brought into custody.

No injuries requiring medical treatment were recorded.

Matthew Larocque, 35, of Swan River is charged with:

  • Resisting arrest; and
  • Failure to comply with a release order condition.

He was remanded into custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for today.
