On June 4, 2026, just before 7 am, Ashern and Lundar RCMP received multiple driving complaints in relation to a stolen four-door SUV driving erratically on Highway 6, heading northbound.
Gypsumville RCMP located the vehicle on Highway 6 and initiated a traffic-stop, but the suspect refused to comply with police. Another officer, who was located just south of Fox Road, waited for the stolen vehicle to approach. This officer successfully deployed a spike belt which resulted in the suspect vehicle coming to a stop as a result of its two flat tires.
Officers approached the vehicle, determined to have been stolen from Winnipeg on June 1, and found three people outside of it who were immediately arrested without incident.
A 24-year-old female, from Dauphin, and a 30-year-old female, from Winnipeg, were released on conditions for court where they will face charges of:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Flight from police
Riel Hart, a 23-year-old male from Long Plain First Nation, has been remanded into custody on charges of:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Flight from police
Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
