Powerview RCMP seeking robbery suspect after employee injured

On June 6, 2026, at 6:54 pm, Powerview RCMP responded to a robbery at a business, located on Highway 59 at the intersection of Highway 11, in the RM of Alexander. A male was observed stealing liquor from that location and an employee tried to stop the suspect from driving away on an ATV.

The employee held on to the suspect, who was on the ATV, until they fell into the ditch. The suspect then ran over the employee with his ATV and drove away. 

A search of the ditch area led to the recovery of stolen liquor, a knife and a jacket that belonged to the suspect.

The employee, a 40-year-old male from the RM of Victoria Beach, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Officers observed the ATV on Highway 11, near the Sagkeeng Junior High School, and attempted a traffic stop but the suspect refused to pull over. The suspect fled into the wooded area located behind Turtle Lodge, towards the townsite. 

The search for the suspect included the use of a drone and Police Dog Services however the suspect was not located.

RCMP have issued a Warrant of Arrest out for Kevin Courchene, a 27-year-old male from Winnipeg, who has been charged with: 

  • Aggravated assault
  • Robbery
  • Assault
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle 
  • Fail to comply with release order x 7
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Flight from police

Kevin Courchene has not been seen or heard from since this incident and has been reported missing by his family who are worried for his wellbeing.
