On June 6, at approximately 3 a.m., RCMP responded to a disturbance at a hotel on the 1600-block of Main Street South in Dauphin.

Officers learned an adult female had been shouting inside the hotel, disturbing other guests and ignoring requests from hotel staff to quiet down. Officers went to the room and found a male and female that appeared to be intoxicated. When asked to give his name, the male gave officers a name that was different than what was subsequently found on his identification.

The male was arrested as a result, prompting him to spit at an RCMP officer.

Elijah Shingoose, 42, of Valley River First Nation is charged with:

  • Assaulting a police officer;
  • Resisting arrest; and
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking x2.

Shingoose made a court appearance on Monday and was remanded into custody.
