On June 10, at approximately 2:45 p.m., RCMP received a report that an individual had pointed a firearm at two other people inside a hotel on the 2400-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage la Prairie.

Officers learned that a teenaged couple had been standing outside earlier that afternoon when they got into an argument with a male they knew who was also staying at the hotel. During the argument, the suspect pulled a handgun out and pointed it at the male victim. The suspect then left.

Out of an abundance of caution, a hold and secure was briefly placed on hotel guests – as well as students and staff at a nearby school – while RCMP investigated.

Officers obtained and executed a warrant on the suspect’s hotel room. The suspect was not in the room, but a handgun, ammunition, cocaine and drug paraphernalia was found and seized.

RCMP are continuing to investigate.
