On June 19, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a male being attacked with a machete on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Officers responded immediately and learned a male had been walking on Sapotaweyak Maskanow Road when two other males – both known to the victim – pulled up on an ATV. One of the suspects jumped off the ATV and ran after the victim with a machete, striking him in the head with it. While the victim wrestled with the first suspect, the second suspect tried at one point to run him over with the ATV.

The victim was able to escape and ran to safety. He was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Both suspects were located at their separate residences and arrested without incident. A machete was also recovered from one of the homes.

Enriquo Bourassa, 19, is charged with:

  • Aggravated assault; and
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Heath Cook, 19, is charged with aggravated assault.

Both were remanded into custody.
