Maroook, an RCMP service dog, helped arrest the male.

On June 25, at approximately 10:10 p.m., RCMP attempted to initiate a traffic stop after seeing a truck driving with a burnt-out front headlight travelling on Highway 5, west of Dauphin.

The vehicle turned onto Road 118 West, then accelerated down a road, turned into the back yard of a farm house, drove through a barbed wire enclosure used for horses and then headed into a wet field before getting stuck approximately 100 metres from where RCMP had stopped and safely watched. The officer continued to watch the suspect and his passenger from a distance as they got out of the truck and attempted to get it unstuck. Once RCMP Police Dog Services arrived at the scene with service dog Marook, officers moved towards the suspects and safely arrested both individuals.

The driver refused to reveal his name, prompting a secondary investigation to confirm his identity.

Michael Delorme, 36, of Speers, Sask., is charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Impaired driving;
  • Mischief under $5,000;
  • Refusal of breathalyzer; and
  • Resisting a peace officer.

He was remanded into custody.

The passenger was released without charge.
