One arrest was made after an individual was hit with bear spray by a passing cyclist in Dauphin on June 27.

On June 27, at approximately 6:10 a.m., RCMP received a report that someone had been hit with bear spray outside a residence on 8th Avenue Northeast in Dauphin.

Officers responded and spoke to a 36-year-old male who told police he was walking home when an individual known to him rode by on a bicycle and bear sprayed him. The victim went to the hospital for treatment. 

On June 28, at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers located the suspect on 1st Street Southeast in Dauphin. The suspect was arrested without incident. A search of his bag revealed a can of bear spray. 

Jarreth Chartrand, 28, of Dauphin, is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
  • Carrying a concealed weapon.

Chartrand was remanded into custody.
