On July 1, 2026, at 1:25 pm, Snow Lake RCMP officers, who were participating in Canada Day festivities at the beach, observed a helicopter approaching and land in the nearby parking lot of the Health Centre.
A male was observed exiting the helicopter and attempting to get the attention of medical staff inside.
Officers approached the 21-year-old male, who advised that there was a 50-year-old male inside the helicopter who was suffering from life-threatening injuries sustained in a workplace accident.
The officers, along with local EMS, hospital staff and a Manitoba Conservation officer, assisted in removing the victim from the helicopter where he was quickly taken inside.
In speaking with the 21-year-old male, he advised that he was part of a four-person crew working at a remote site, located approximately two minutes away by helicopter, where they were involved in the clearing of trees for the creation of a landing zone for helicopters.
One of the workers was cutting a tree down when it fell in a different direction than intended and struck the 50-year-old male. The victim, who was taken to hospital, later succumbed to his injuries.
RCMP officers were then transported to the site of the accident to examine the scene.
In addition to the ongoing RCMP investigation, Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health were notified.
