Gimli RCMP investigate fatal collision on Highway 8

On July 2, 2026, at 2:40 pm, Gimli RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 8, at the intersection of Provincial Road 229, in the RM of Gimli.
Officers responded with EMS and the fire department. Upon arrival at the scene, they observed a sedan in the southwest ditch, heavily damaged. There was a pickup truck with extensive damage to the front end on the Highway.
Officers learned that the sedan was travelling west on PR 229 when it collided with the southbound pickup truck on Highway 8.
The driver of the sedan, an 86-year-old male from Teulon, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup, a 48-year-old male from Niverville, suffered from non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital and later discharged.
Gimli RCMP, with the assistance of the Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services, continue to investigate.
