Steinbach RCMP investigating an attempted theft of cellphone

On June 28, 2026, at 2:23 pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report of an attempted theft of a cellphone on Reimer Avenue in Steinbach.

A 57-year-old female was on Reimer Avenue on her motorized mobility scooter when she was approached by an unknown male. The suspect attempted to steal the victim’s cellphone, but she was able to stop it. She was subsequently assaulted and the male was seen fleeing the area towards Brandt Street. The victim sustained minor physical injuries. 

The suspect is described as a white male, 5’10 with unkept brown hair. He was wearing a brown baseball hat, a brown jacket, beige pants, black hoody, light coloured shoes and carrying a black backpack with a blue sleeping bag attached. 

Police have canvassed the immediate area for video surveillance, but no evidence has been gathered.

Steinbach RCMP is asking anyone who may have dash camera footage or video surveillance obtained near the intersection of Reimer Avenue and Brandt Street or who may have captured images of the suspect, from June 28 at approximately 12:45 pm, to contact the RCMP at 204-326-4452.
