On July 3, at approximately 11:45 p.m., RCMP initiated a traffic stop after witnessing a truck drive through an intersection against a red light in Portage la Prairie.

RCMP pulled the driver over on Saskatchewan Avenue, near 12th Street Northwest. After approaching the vehicle and speaking to the driver for a few minutes, RCMP administered a breathalyzer on the driver, which he failed.

During further discussion with the driver, it was discovered he had two firearms inside the vehicle, some ammunition and two pocket knives. The suspect was arrested, the weapons were seized, and the vehicle was towed.

A 31-year-old male from the RM of Westlake-Gladstone received an immediate roadside prohibition. He also faces a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon. He was released on an appearance notice.
