Minnedosa RCMP arrested three males after a vehicle was stolen and set ablaze south of Rapid City on July 8.

On July 8, at approximately 5:45 a.m., Minnedosa RCMP received a report of a vehicle on fire on Road 75 North, south of Rapid City in the RM of Oakview.

Officers went to the scene and learned three individuals had intentionally set the vehicle on fire, then fled on foot. The vehicle subsequently became fully engulfed in flames.

RCMP were directed to a nearby rural property where the three suspects had reportedly stopped and asked the homeowner for water. The youths were located on the property and arrested without incident.

Further investigation revealed the burned vehicle had been reported stolen and driven to the location prior to the fire being set.

Officers also recovered several edged weapons in the possession of the suspects, along with property believed to have been stolen from the vehicle owner.

Three males -- ages 14, 17 and 18 – are facing charges that include:

  • Arson to a motor vehicle;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

One of the accused, the 18-year-old, is facing an additional charge of possession of stolen property.

All three were released on appearance notices.

Minnedosa RCMP thank the Rapid City Fire Department and members of the public for their assistance, which contributed to the swift identification and arrest of the suspects.
