On July 9, at approximately 12:50 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of an assault occurring near a business on Main Street North in Minnedosa.
RCMP learned the business owner had seen the suspect walking down the street and confronted him about a break-in and theft that had occurred overnight at his restaurant. The confrontation quickly escalated and a brief scuffle occurred, with the business owner being pushed. The suspect then left.
Officers located the suspect a little further down the street within minutes and arrested him. The suspect’s primary language was not English or French, so an officer was found to read his rights and explain the court process to him in his language.
Cash believed to have been taken during the theft was recovered by RCMP.
A 26-year-old male faces charges of:
- Assault; and
- Break and enter.
He was released on an undertaking, with a court appearance scheduled for Oct. 20.
