Portage la Prairie RCMP arrest masked male for possessing break-in instruments

On July 14, at approximately 4 a.m., RCMP saw a male wearing a balaclava on his head behind a business on the 100-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage la Prairie.
An officer approached the suspect and saw a large handle of an unknown item poking out of the male’s backpack. The suspect confirmed a knife was in the bag and he was arrested.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s backpack uncovered a large hammer, bolt cutters and a purse that had nine cellphones, various pieces of identification for another person and two sets of keys.
A 34-year-old Portage la Prairie male faces charges of:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000; and
- Possession of break-in instruments.
He was released on an undertaking.
