An officer approached the suspect and saw a large handle of an unknown item poking out of the male’s backpack. The suspect confirmed a knife was in the bag and he was arrested.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s backpack uncovered a large hammer, bolt cutters and a purse that had nine cellphones, various pieces of identification for another person and two sets of keys.

A 34-year-old Portage la Prairie male faces charges of:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
