Portage la Prairie RCMP investigating fatal collision involving train

On July 14, at approximately 8 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a train and a van west of Portage la Prairie.
The collision occurred on Road 40 West, in the RM of Portage la Prairie.
It appears a southbound Manitoba Sheriffs van collided with a train, causing the van to roll and land in the ditch. The driver, a 28-year-old Portage la Prairie male, died at the scene.
The passenger had minor injuries and was transported by paramedics to hospital as a precaution.
No one else was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.
RCMP are investigating with assistance from CN Police and Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety.
