On July 21, 2026, at approximately 1:15 pm, Wabowden RCMP officers were on patrol on highway 6, when a vehicle passed them that was noticeably speeding near Setting Lake road 4.
Officers were headed south on highway 6 and turned around to initiate a traffic stop on the truck that was headed north.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noted a male driver, and five children in the back seat including one on the floor.
None of the kids were in car seats or wearing seat belts.
The 35-year-old driver from Cross Lake was given a ticket for speeding after driving 147 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
He was also ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for numerous seatbelt infractions totalling $1,166.
Manitoba RCMP would like remind motorists of the importance of having a car seat or booster seat that matches your child’s age, height and weight.
A properly restrained child is far less likely to be seriously injured in a crash.
