Blue Hills RCMP arrested a male and recovered this firearm following an incident at a Souris residence on Aug. 27.

On Aug. 27, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Blue Hills RCMP responded to a report of an armed male who had entered a residence in Souris and assaulted someone.

Officers learned a male suspect knocked on the door of the residence. When a female resident answered, the suspect asked to speak to her partner, then assaulted and pointed a high-powered rifle at her.

The female ran as her husband arrived. He tackled the suspect, wrestled away the firearm and held him for police. The victims were not seriously hurt.

RCMP arrived and the suspect was taken into custody. He was transported to hospital for monitoring, then arrested the next morning upon his release and taken into custody.

The firearm was retrieved and seized by officers.

Kenneth Kettles, 66, of Souris is charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm x2;
  • Resisting a peace officer;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Break and enter
  • Careless use of a firearm;
  • Assault with a weapon x2;
  • Assault;
  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence; and
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

Kettles was released on a release order.
