Ashern & Lundar RCMP investigating string of break and enters

On September 14, 2026, Ashern RCMP were notified regarding two separate break and enters into businesses in Ashern.

RCMP were first notified at 6:48 a.m., after a business on Highway 6 reported a break-in overnight.

Officers attended the scene and the initial investigation determined the suspects gained entry through the rear portion of the property by cutting a hole in the overhead door. Considerable damage was done to the property and a number of items were stolen, including a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado belonging to the company, various keys for other vehicles and the cash drawer.

Two male suspects fled the scene in a grey GMC truck headed south on Highway 6. 

One suspect was described as wearing a grey hoodie and dark blue pants while the other was in a black Nike hoodie and grey Under Armour pants. Both were wearing face masks and gloves.

The second break and enter report came into Ashern RCMP at 9:10 a.m. after an incident on Railway Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and were advised that two male suspects cut through a fence to gain access to a front storage yard. Once inside, locks were cut off three storage units.

Despite the damage, no significant property was reported stolen. A description of the suspects given to police matched the previous report with the suspects also fleeing in a grey GMC truck.

Later that day, at 11:12 p.m., Lundar RCMP received information about a truck that was driving erratically on Woolsery Road, in the RM of West Interlake. Police began patrols immediately and observed multiple vehicle tracks on the gravel road that had gone in and out of the ditch while en route.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located the suspect vehicle stationary but still running near a rural property. Upon approach, the male driver appeared to be sleeping. The vehicle was placed in park by officers. The front of the truck was covered in grass and weeds, consistent with driving through ditches.

While speaking with the driver, a number of tools and equipment was seen in plain view inside. The male was unable to provide proof of ownership.

Checks on the vehicle showed it was reported stolen from a local business. It was later discovered the company emblem had been removed from the vehicle.

Officers arrested the male at the scene without incident.

The 31-year-old,  from the RM of Grahamdale, faces charges of:

• Mischief over $5,000 – damage to vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime x2
• Taking motor vehicle without consent of owner
• Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

He was released on an appearance notice.

Ashern and Lundar RCMP continue to investigate.
