RCMP Traffic Services seized approximately 34 kilograms of suspected cocaine from a rented vehicle on Sept. 23. A 33-year-old Calgary male is charged.

On Sept. 23, at approximately 12:40 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services initiated a traffic stop on an SUV near Portage la Prairie.

Following a conversation with the driver, RCMP called in the Manitoba First Nations Police Service to assist by bringing their police service dog to the scene.

The canine smelled narcotics, resulting in a search of the vehicle and the subsequent seizure of 34 kilograms of what is believed to be cocaine. Samples from the seized packages are being sent to Health Canada for confirmation. Thirty-four kilograms of cocaine have an estimated street value of approximately $850,000.

The driver was arrested without incident at the scene.

Gurinder Singh, 33, of Calgary is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was remanded into custody.
