Lundar RCMP arrest impaired male in a stolen vehicle with firearms

On September 27, 2026, at 3:30 pm, Lundar RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Chartrand Rd in St Laurent. It was reported the vehicle was continuously driving by kids playing outside. 

A 10-year-old boy called police and he provided a licence plate with a picture of the vehicle. 

Queries revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen to the Steinbach RCMP the day prior.  

Officers responded immediately and located the vehicle travelling north on Highway 6, through St. Laurent. The vehicle was pulled over and the male driver exited stumbling, holding a beer can. He was arrested for impaired driving. 

The passenger was arrested for possession of property obtained by crime. Officers then located two firearms inside the vehicle. They were reported stolen to the St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP the day before. 

The passenger provided police a false name. Further investigation revealed his correct name and that he was wanted on four arrest warrants. 

The Driver, Scott Taylor, a 37-year-old male from Portage la Prairie, has been remanded in custody and charged with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Refusal to comply with a demand;
  • Fail to comply with a release order x 3;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Possession of firearm in motor vehicle;
  • Unauthorised possession of a firearm; and
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime

The passenger, Rudy Contois, a 26-year-old male from Carberry, has been remanded in custody and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Possession of firearm in motor vehicle;
  • Unauthorised possession of a firearm;
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime; and 
  • Fail to comply with a release order x 2

Lundar RCMP continue to investigate.
