On Sept. 29, at approximately 2:10 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services pulled over an eastbound semi-truck on the Trans-Canada Highway near Elie.
While speaking to the semi’s two occupants, RCMP noted a package of unmarked cigarettes on the dashboard – prompting further inspection of the vehicle. Officers then located a package amongst groceries that contained approximately $50,000 in cash.
The two suspects were arrested without incident.
A 38-year-old male from Hannon, Ont. and a 53-year-old male from Mississauga, Ont., both face charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Their names cannot be shared until charges are sworn.
The two were released on an appearance notice, with a court date scheduled for January.
The investigation continues.
