Virden RCMP arrest pair as part of drug trafficking investigation on Sioux Valley Dakota Nation

On Sept. 29, at approximately 8:15 a.m., RCMP executed a search warrant as part of a drug trafficking investigation at a residence on the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.
Once inside, Virden RCMP – with assistance from the Manitoba West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) and Police Dog Services – found and seized cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription opioids, drug paraphernalia, nearly $1,500 in Canadian cash and another $800 in American money.
Officers also found a number of weapons – including firearms, a knife and multiple cans of bear mace – and a bulletproof vest.
Two people arrested at the residence have been charged.
Blair McKay, 44, of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking x3;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized;
- Unsafe storage of firearms;
- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization x2;
- Possession of controlled substance x2;
- Possession of body armour without a permit; and
- Breach of regulation under 3(1) of The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act.
Crystal Taylor, 40, of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking x3;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized;
- Unsafe storage of firearms;
- Possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization x2;
- Possession of controlled substance x2;
- Possession of body armour without a permit; and
- Breach of regulation under 3(1) of The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act.
Both accused were remanded into custody.
Virden RCMP continues to investigate.
