On Oct. 4, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Amaranth RCMP saw a vehicle travelling south through the community on Highway 50 at a high rate of speed.
RCMP attempted to pull over the vehicle, activating its emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle sped away. Out of concern for public safety, RCMP did not pursue.
A short time later, the officer was responding to an unrelated case when he saw the same vehicle in the ditch near Sandy Bay First Nation. The vehicle had rolled.
The 35-year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported via air ambulance to hospital in Winnipeg, where she was in critical but stable condition at last report.
Two female passengers – a 38-year-old from Sandy Bay and a 36-year-old from Amaranth – were taken to hospital via ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 42-year-old Amaranth female declined treatment at the scene.
RCMP are investigating.
