Stonewall RCMP and the RCMP East District CREST arrested a male on Oct. 15 who had fled from police days earlier. A subsequent search warrant of his residence uncovered power tools that had been reported stolen from a Stony Mountain construction yard earlier this month.

On Oct. 9, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Stonewall RCMP attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a truck believed to be driven by someone without a valid licence.

The driver ignored the RCMP’s lights and sirens and continued south on Main Street in Stonewall before turning down other streets, ignoring stop signs and driving in a dangerous manner. The driver of the truck then circled back to Main Street, dropped off a male passenger, and then fled.

RCMP did not pursue due to public safety concerns.

The suspect was identified and a warrant of arrest was subsequently issued. On Oct. 15, Stonewall RCMP and the RCMP East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) arrested the male at his residence, on the 100-block of Main Street in Stonewall.

While inside the residence, officers noted several power tools that were believed to match those stolen from a construction yard in Stony Mountain earlier this month. A search warrant was executed the next day and several more power tools, valued in the thousands of dollars, were located on the property and seized by officers.

Brendon Osbak, 32, of Stonewall is charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Theft over $5,000; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000.

Osbak was remanded into custody.
