On Oct. 24, at approximately 2 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on the 100-block of Main Street North in Dauphin.

Officers learned someone had broken into the residence and stolen electronics. RCMP investigated and determined two suspects – a male and a female – had entered the residence, with the female having a key. The pair were leaving a short time later with large bags full of objects.

The suspects were identified and warrants of arrest were issued.

On Nov. 4, at approximately 6:45 p.m., RCMP learned that the male had been seen on the 1400-block of Main Street South in Dauphin.

Officers located the suspect on a bicycle in a parking lot and attempted to arrest him. The suspect fled.

A short time later, RCMP again located the suspect outside a nearby hotel. Officers saw the suspect knock on a hotel room door, then push his way past the person answering and went inside.

Two RCMP officers – one from Dauphin, the other from Ste. Rose du Lac – were able to subsequently open the door a short time later and found the suspect inside the room with the couple who had rented the room, who had not invited him inside

The suspect was taken into custody after resisting arrest. A knife was found inside the suspect’s jacket pocket.

Rodney McKay, 40, of Dauphin is charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house;
  • Resisting a peace officer;
  • Failure to comply with a release order condition;
  • Break and enter; and
  • Theft under $5,000.

He was remanded into custody.

The investigation continues.
