RCMP arrests youth following threats to school

A youth has been arrested for making online threats towards a school in Oromocto, N.B.
On February 6, 2025, at approximately 12: 08 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP received a report of an individual who made threats towards an Oromocto school on social media.
Police quickly arrived at the school, and arrested a youth in connection with the threats without incident.
After further investigation, police determined that the threats were believed to be unfounded. The youth was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later time.
The RCMP investigates all calls involving threats to a school, even if the information is received through a third party or via social media.
The Oromocto RCMP would like to remind the public to be careful about what they post on social media and to be aware of the potential consequences of their actions.
"The RCMP takes threats to the safety of our communities very seriously," said Sgt. Stéphane Esculier with the Oromocto RCMP. "We will not tolerate violent threats or statements of any kind, and those who make them may face criminal charges involving significant sentences."
The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
At the time of the incident, the school was placed on a hold and secure by school officials.

The investigation is ongoing.
