Man charged with impaired driving causing death

A 34-year-old man from Pigeon Hill, N.B., has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Involved in a Collision Causing Death, in Lamèque, N.B.

On March 1, 2025, at approximately 1:52 a.m., while conducting routine patrols, the Lamèque RCMP came across the scene of a collision between an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a pickup truck on Rue Principale in Lamèque. 

A 34-year-old man from Lamèque, who was the driver and sole occupant of the ATV, was found unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was uninjured; however, he was showing signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the local RCMP detachment to provide breath samples.

Later the same day, 34-year-old Yan Ferron appeared in Bathurst Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with: 
 
-    Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Involved in a Collision Causing Death 
-    Uttering threats

He was remanded into custody. 

On March 3, 2025, Yan Ferron reappeared in Bathurst Provincial court for a bail hearing. He was released on conditions and will reappear in court on March 31, 2025.  

Members of the Lamèque Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office and an RCMP traffic reconstructionist are assisting with the investigation.
