A 22-year-old man from Shediac, N.B., has been charged in connection with a series of incidents in the community.

In May 2025, the Southeast District RCMP Community Crime Reduction Unit (CCRU) began assisting general duty members in the Shediac and Sackville regions with investigating several vehicle thefts, and were able to identify several persons of interest in connection with the occurrences.

On May 5, 2025, members of the Sackville RCMP located a stolen Chevrolet Equinox in the parking lot of a business in Memramcook and seized the vehicle as part of the investigation.

On May 8, members of the Shediac RCMP located a stolen Toyota Corolla in the parking lot of an apartment building in Shediac and observed two individuals get into the vehicle and drive away. Police did not pursue the vehicle, which was later located abandoned in a nearby parking lot with the assistance of RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) technology.

On May 13, the Shediac RCMP received a report from a homeowner in the community that there were two suspicious vehicles and individuals in their backyard. When confronted by the homeowner, both suspects fled in the vehicles. Police successfully intercepted one of the vehicles and learned that the suspects were attempting to commit a robbery at the residence.

Upon further investigation, police also learned that the second suspect who fled the scene was planning a targeted home invasion at a residence in Shediac with the intention of stealing a number of firearms from the residence. Police immediately contacted the homeowners to enact a safety plan.

On May 14, the Southeast District CCRU, with assistance from the New Brunswick RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP RPAS Operators, and the Provincial Crime Reduction Unit, conducted an operation which led to the interception of a vehicle and the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Shediac in connection with the investigation. The man was in possession of a stolen RCMP badge when he was arrested. A 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were also arrested at the scene.

The same day, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Shediac in connection with the investigation. During the search, police seized a sawed-off shotgun, several rifles, a pistol, high-velocity airsoft guns, a bulletproof vest, concealment clothing, stolen property, a vehicle, and three electronic devices as a result of the search.

The 23-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were later released pending a future court appearance.

On May 15, 22-year-old Justin Knott of Shediac appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with robbery with a firearm. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 20 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police are asking anyone who may have information that could further the investigation to contact the Southeast District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit at 506-533-5151. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
