Two men charged in connection with homicide

Update, June 2, 2025: Tony Dufour and Bruce Dufour appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court, however the matter was adjourned until June 17, 2025. The New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is now releasing the name of the victim in connection with the homicide. The victim was identified as 29-year-old Tony Lajoie, of Drummond, N.B. 

 

A 36-year-old man from Saint-Jacques, and a 37-year-old man from Edmundston, have been charged in connection with a homicide in Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska, N.B.

On May 30, 2025, at approximately 11:43 p.m., members of the Saint-Léonard RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon involving three men at a business on 2nd Sault Road in Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska. When police arrived, they located a 29-year-old man outside of the business who was suffering from significant injuries. The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

In the early hours of May 31, a 37-year-old man from Edmundston was arrested in Saint-Léonard without incident. A 36-year-old man from Saint-Jacques was later arrested by the Edmundston Police Force.

Later that day, 37-year-old Bruce Dufour, and 36-year-old Tony Dufour, appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and were both charged with second-degree murder. They were both remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Edmundston Provincial Court on June 2, 2025, at 9:30.

The New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation. Members of the Forensic Identification Services, Community Crime Reduction Unit, and the New Brunswick Coroner’s office are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
