19-year-old man charged in connection with assault

A 19-year-old man from Blackville, N.B., has been charged following an assault in Quarryville, N.B.

On July 26, 2025, the Blackville RCMP detachment received a report of an assault that had happened on July 18 at approximately 10:30 p.m., on Route 108 in Quarryville. It was reported that a man was walking on the side of the road when an unknown vehicle approached him and two individuals began shooting live fireworks at the man, striking him several times. The individuals then fled the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries.

On July 27, following a subsequent investigation, police arrested a 19-year-old man from Blackville in connection with the assault.

On July 28, Nathan Lee Gillespie appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court, and was charged with:

  • Using explosives with intent to do bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order 
  • Failure to comply with Probation Order
  • Resisting arrest

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

Also on July 28, police arrested a second 19-year-old man from Blackville in connection with the investigation. He was later released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court in November.
