A 35-year-old man residing in Moncton, has been charged following an assault and an attempted murder of a police officer in Moncton, N.B.
On August 14, 2025, at approximately 11:57 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance and an assault between two individuals at a residence on Fairisle Drive, in Moncton. When police arrived at the scene, they attempted to place one of the individuals under arrest, but the individual resisted, and an altercation ensued.
During the altercation, the individual stabbed one of the responding police officers in the head several times. In an attempt to gain control of the individual, an officer deployed their taser (conducted energy weapon), however, it was ineffective. The taser was deployed a second time and was successful in subduing the individual, who was then arrested.
The injured police officer was transported to hospital with severe, but non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been released.
On August 15, Edva Mascary appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:
- Two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Two counts of resisting a peace officer
- Attempted murder
- Uttering threats
- Assault
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 22.
The investigation is ongoing.
