Update, October 29, 2025: On October 28, 2025, Christian Enang Clyke appeared in Miramichi Court of King’s Bench and was sentenced to life in prison, with no eligibility of parole for 25 years in connection to a homicide investigation that began in 2022. He is also subject to various forfeiture orders and is required to submit a DNA sample.
Update, August 13, 2025: On August 5, 2025, Christian Enang Clyke appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court and was found guilty of second degree murder in connection with the homicide of a 49-year-old man from Hainesville, N.B. He is scheduled to return to court on October 28, 2025, at 13:30 p.m. for his sentencing.
Original news release (May 18, 2023): A 31-year-old man from Halifax, N.S., has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the homicide of a 49-year-old man, from Hainesville, N.B.
On October 6, 2022, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members of the Blackville RCMP detachment responded to a report of an assault at the Atlantic Institution, in Renous. A 49-year-old man who was an inmate at the facility was located badly injured in his cell. He was transported to the hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries, where he later died. The inmate was later identified as Richard King.
Later the same day, a 31-year-old man, who was also an inmate at the Atlantic Institution at the time, was arrested.
Through the investigation, police determined the death of Richard King was the result of a homicide.
On May 15, 2023, a charge of second degree murder was laid against 31-year-old Christian Enang Clyke, in Miramichi Provincial Court. He remains in custody, and is scheduled to appear in court on May 25.
The investigation is ongoing.
