Update: On December 2 and 3, 2025, the New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit conducted an operation in Whites Mountain, N.B., in connection with the investigation. Police are still looking for any new details about his disappearance, even if they seem small. Anyone who may have information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sussex RCMP at 506-433-7700. The New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is now investigating the disappearance of a 48-year-old man from Whites Mountain, N.B.

David Alexander Mitchell was last seen on September 9, 2024, at a residence on Whites Mountain Road, in Whites Mountain, N.B. He was reported missing to police on September 25, 2024. Since then, police have followed up on several leads, tips, and information, but have so far been unsuccessful. Police are still actively working to determine what led to the disappearance of David Mitchell and are trying to bring answers to his family and his community.

In September 2025, it was determined that the New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit would be taking over the investigation.

“This is a case that involves several unanswered questions in relation to the events leading to and following the disappearance of David Mitchell on September 9, 2024,” says Cpl. Matthew Leblanc-Smith of the New Brunswick RCMP. “The Southeast District RCMP has worked diligently on this file over the last year, and our Major Crime Unit will continue this work to ensure all avenues are explored to solve this case.”

David Alexander Mitchell is described as being approximately six feet two inches (188 centimetres) tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds (81 kilograms). He has hazel eyes, grey hair and a grey goatee. A clothing description is not available.
